Savience is a leading exponent of RPA in healthcare. Based on the Boston WorkStation platform, Savience scripting tools are employed primarily to automatically enter key data into a variety of different hospital systems.
A major bonus of Savience’s scripting tool is the ability to enter data into any software system. The RPA tool is programmed to operate the hospital system in much the same way as a new human operator is trained.

In the NHS, scripting is often used by Savience to update the patient administration system (PAS) automatically with patient arrivals.

At George Eliot Hospital, an HL7 arrival message is sent to mark a patient’s arrival in their Lorenzo EPR, while any demographic changes made by the patient at a kiosk is scripted back to Lorenzo through RPA.

The PAS at the Naas General Hospital in Ireland does not support inbound HL7 messages, so instead a script updates the PAS with arrivals and demographic changes.

At Western Health Board in Northern Ireland, one of the hospital’s CliniCom PAS systems receives a HL7 arrival message from Savience. To avoid the cost of additional in-bound HL7 interfaces for other CliniCom systems, Savience uses its RPA technology to mark patients as arrived in the PAS and make demographic changes to the patient record.

At Ulster Hospital’s emergency department, the Savience system prompts for patient identifiers, demographic and triage information via the kiosks. This is then matched automatically against the patient medical record to create the patient visit. This is an entirely unattended robotic process.

At William Osler Health System hospitals in Ontario, a complete patient registration (including demographic updates and healthcard validation) is scripted back to their Meditech PAS. This is for both new and recurring visits.

This process was repeated at other hospitals in Ontario, including Headwaters Health Care Centre and Lennox and Addington County General Hospital. The latter also employs kiosks at its emergency department, so triage data is added automatically to the ED list in Meditech.
